This volume of Cicero covers Friendship, Divination and Old Age. All these topics are relevant to me in my study of late Roman friendship, age and religion in my Research Degree. It has the usual Loeb qualities of ease of reading and convenience - even though the translation is a bit dated/5(23). This authoritative edition of Cicero's Treatises on Friendship and Old Age features the respected translation of E. S. Shuckburgh. Written in the second century A.D., these writings encapsulate the wisdom and ability possessed by their author/5(47). Try the new Google Books. Cicero's Essays On Old Age And Friendship: Also His Paradoxes ()Author: Marcus Tullius Cicero.

I found On Old Age to be a very nice treatise on old age. It addressed four objections to old age in a concise and insightful way, with humor that made it easy to swallow. On Friendship was rambling and a bit superfluous, with observations such as "loyalty is necessary to friendship". I usually give the benefit of the doubt to the classic /5(60). Essays on Old Age and Friendship by Cicero, Marcus Tullius and a great selection of related books, As this print on demand book is reprinted from a very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book.   Chock-a-block with opinions on books read, plays and films seen, stories of happy times spent with old friends such as Alan Bennett, Irene Worth and John Wells, and the joys of life at home in. Old Age is a huge survey of the state of old age. It hadn’t been done before. There was some stuff from classical literature, but there wasn’t a contemporary survey. Some of it has dated because it’s to do with France in the s and ’70s, but some of it is as relevant as it always was.
